lol. “WILDER, Ky. – Chief Anthony Rouse of the Wilder Police Department says the new siren on several of his squad cars could save a life. “The more we can let the public know we are coming…gives us that much more time,” said Rouse about the Rumbler. The Rumbler is a 100-200 watt low frequency warning siren. It is mounted towards the front of the cruiser and low to the ground. “The sound bounces off the ground and reaches people right where they are. The old sirens placed on the light bar would often go over the heads of people,” explained Rouse. The reverberating tones as explained by Wilder’s supplier are able to penetrate vehicles. “Our guys say they can’t believe they’ve gone without it. They like it that much,” said Officer Scott Rouse. 9 News asked a few people to listen to the Rumbler to get their reaction to the sound. All had never heard it before. “It’s definitely disorienting. It’s not what you would normally expect for a police siren,” said Thomas Fitzgerald of Southgate. “It’s just like a beating in your stomach,” said Mandy Stephens. “It jolts you at first.” “It kind of sounds like an Atari video game, it would definitely get my attention,” said Cody Cooper of Newport.
